About Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a natural, age-related vision condition that affects the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects. As the eye ages, the natural lens gradually loses elasticity, making it harder to shift focus between distances. Most adults begin noticing symptoms in their early to mid-forties, often experiencing difficulty reading small print, eye strain, or headaches during close work.
Unlike myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, presbyopia is not caused by the shape of the cornea or retina. Instead, it occurs as the lens inside the eye becomes less flexible over time. Many patients first rely on reading glasses, bifocals, or contact lenses, but these options do not correct the underlying refractive error and may limit visual freedom.
